Le min\u00e9ral de fer le plus abondant, de forme cristalline, l\u2019h\u00e9matite peut \u00eatre de couleur noir, argent\u00e9, rouge ou brun. L\u2019h\u00e9matite rouge est le min\u00e9ral le plus utilis\u00e9 au niveau industriel. La teneur en fer de l\u2019h\u00e9matite est de 69,9%.<\/p>\n

Ces grains de fer sont soud\u00e9s \u00e0 d\u2019autres min\u00e9raux dans l\u2019\u00e9tat naturel. Le concassage et le broyage servent \u00e0 les dessouder ou les lib\u00e9rer les uns des autres. Puisque les grains de fer sont plus lourds que les autres min\u00e9raux auxquels ils sont soud\u00e9s, on les s\u00e9pare par\u00a0gravim\u00e9trie<\/a>. Lorsque le concentr\u00e9 de fer est trop fin, on l\u2019agglom\u00e8re sous forme de boulettes.<\/p>\n

Utilisation<\/strong><\/h2>\n

L\u2019h\u00e9matite est utilis\u00e9e dans les b\u00e9tons lourds, les fontes, les aciers et les alliages. Le min\u00e9ral peut \u00e9galement servir de pigment et entre dans la composition d\u2019\u00e9maux et d\u2019englobes pour c\u00e9ramique.<\/p>\n

Mines au Qu\u00e9bec<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Les mines\u00a0Mont-Wright,\u00a0Lac Tio\u00a0et Fire Lake produisent du concentr\u00e9 de fer et des boulettes en traitant de l\u2019h\u00e9matite sp\u00e9culaire.<\/p>\n

D\u2019autres projets miniers en d\u00e9veloppement sont\u00a0DSO, Blackrock, Fire Lake North, Hopes Advance Bay, K\u00e9Mag, Lac Duncan, Lac Otelnuk et Montgolfier Iron Hills.<\/p>\n

Le mot h\u00e9matite vient du mot latin pour sang, puisque la poudre d\u2019h\u00e9matite \u00e9tait utilis\u00e9e comme pigment rouge.<\/p>\n

L\u2019homme homo sapiens se servait d\u2019h\u00e9matite en poudre comme pigment pour d\u00e9corer les murs de sa caverne.<\/p>\n

Pline l\u2019Ancien a fait mention de l\u2019h\u00e9matite dans ses \u00e9crits en l\u2019an 77.<\/p>\n

Dans l\u2019Antiquit\u00e9, on utilisait le pigment d\u2019h\u00e9matite dans la fabrication de cosm\u00e9tiques.<\/p>\n

\u00c0 l\u2019\u00e8re Victorienne, l\u2019h\u00e9matite \u00e9tait utilis\u00e9e dans la fabrication de bijoux.<\/p>\n

Selon certains adeptes de la lithoth\u00e9rapie, l\u2019h\u00e9matite serait un traitement efficace pour les varices et les troubles circulatoires, et fortifierait les poumons, le foie et les reins.<\/p>\n

On retrouve l\u2019h\u00e9matite dans des contextes g\u00e9ologiques tr\u00e8s vari\u00e9s, mais particuli\u00e8rement en Chine, en Australie et au Br\u00e9sil.
